Rankin Bottoms, Cocke county, 9/6/14, 12:30-2:30, viewing from the shore
Lake elev.: 983.3 ft

Many Egrets when we arrived, but, as Tom Howe reported earlier, very few
shorebirds - none directly across from the tipple area. Considering how many
have been reported through the week, I suspect a Peregrine Falcon or Merlin may
have come through. We were leaving at 1:30, but a coal train was stopped at
the RR crossing, so we went back for another survey and found that shorebird
variety and numbers had grown considerably.

Partial list:
Blue-winged Teal (25)
Great Egret (190)

American Golden-Plover (1)
Semipalmated Plover (15)
Killdeer (62)
Greater Yellowlegs (12)
Lesser Yellowlegs (3)
Spotted Sandpiper (4)
Ruddy Turnstone (1)
Pectoral Sandpiper (9)
Western Sandpiper (2)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (12)
Least Sandpiper (70)
Buff-breasted Sandpiper (1)

Caspian Tern (1)
