Cocke county, 4/7/08. 4-7 PM By canoe; Douglas Lake elevation: 977.2 ft. We put in at the Leadvale boat ramp and toured down the lake into 10 Islands. The 600 acre (approx.) area is almost entirely flooded. Most of the day's waterfowl were dispersed along the shallower east side. We then entered Rankin Bottoms and were able to float almost around to the entrance road. Wood duck numbers were higher there, as if in anticipation of the extensive nesting habitat that will develop as the lake rises. A few images from the outing, mostly of ducks, can be viewed at http://www.pbase.com/sylvafoto/inbox.
