Tipton / Shelby Co. TN
DeSoto Co. MS

The last trip of the month was wide ranging.
At Robco Lake, TN, there was no sign of the Red-necked Grebe but 2 Common
Loons continue along with 13 species of ducks with many species down to
just one or two birds. Pied-billed Grebes abound with lots of Ring-billed
Gulls along with a few Bonaparte's and Forster's Terns. About the same large
number of swallows and Purple Martins has been present for a while.

In DeSoto Co, MS, near the Mississippi Levee, I found large numbers of
Golden-Plovers in the fields and being chased up by Harriers and the largest
group, 1200+ birds, briefly chased off the ground by a passing Peregrine.
Total counted in the area, 3,500+. Three Uplands were scattered in three
widely separated fields. Ring-billed Gulls off of Old 61 Highway were in the
company of many variably plumaged Bonaparte's and a few Forster's Terns.

That afternoon, in Tipton Co, TN, I found nice numbers of Golden-Plovers
but because of flooding many areas can not be reached. About 1,500 birds
seen at 6 locations. A Red-breasted Grosbeak was the surprise of the day near
Millstone Mountain in north Tipton Co. along with 2 Lincoln's Sparrows in
one thicket.

Think I'll try AR today.............
