The Chattanooga CBC was held on December 20. Despite very cold morning
temperatures, 24 participants were in the field. The species count was an
excellant 106! The highest in many years and close to the all time high of
109.

Highlights included:
- 6 female LONG-TAILED DUCKS- These birds were seen among large rafts of
migrating waterfowl out from Bal Harbor Road, which is one of the
neighborhoods on the south side of the Chickamauga Lake between Chickamauga
Dam and Booker T Washington State Park. The birds were not relocated the
next day.
- 1 SEDGE WREN at the Brainerd Levee
- 5 VIRGINIA RAILS at Standifer Gap Marsh
- 2 Orange Crowned Warblers at separate locations
- 14 Purple Finchs at two separate locations
- 2 House Wrens
- A male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD at an disclosed location in the count circle,
plus another undisclosed Selasphorus on Missionary Ridge and another
Selasphorus on Signal Mountain.
- Over 400 Sandhill Cranes
- 2 Peregrine Falcons below Chickamauga Dam

Misses:
- No Herring Gull
- No Barred Owl

I want to thank all of the count participants who did a fantastic job!!!

One COMMON MERGANSER was reported at Pinky's Point, (near Chester Frost
Park, on the north side of Chickamauga Lake) on the TOS fieldtrip on
December 23. (Harold Birch)

25 Red-breasted Mergansers were in the same area where the Long-tailed Ducks
were seen (December 20) on Lake Chickamauga on December 21. (Libby Wolfe)
