My wife and daughter saw him yesterday, but I wasn't around and the Merlin
app wasn't much help. He's back today and I was able to see him and do a
bit more searching. Very pretty birds! We have a lot of neat ones around
right now. A bluebird had nested in a birdhouse that was left here by the
previous owner (we just moved here in November). Several American
goldfinches are currently making use of our feeders, and the indigo bunting
is new here. Bald eagles aren't unknown and we have a variety of raptors
here, including barred and great-horned owls that I've ID'd by call. There
are several *Buteo* species present that I need to work on identifying,
other than the usual red-tailed and red-shouldered hawks. We have a small
46 acre farm and while waterfowl are my research focus and hobby,
passerines are neat little creatures.

Rose-breasted Grosbeaks migrate thru in the spring and fall. We have a
male that has been at our feeder the last 2 days. Normally, when we see
them it is just for a short time.
If you look at the species map on ebird you can see how frequently they
are seen across the state.
They are beautiful birds and I always count myself fortunate when I see
them.
