Duck River NWR
Traveling

Finally decided to go to Duck River NWR about 10:30 pm yesterday even
though no one had been seeing the Spoonbill. Arrived at the Duck River NWR at
6:00 AM. Stopped at the first pull off at the long ditch and watched Great
Egret after Great Egret land and start to feed. Counted 50 at one time
along with about 6 Great Blue Herons. Also had 4 Green herons flying around
and landing in the big trees on the left side of the ditch and the small
pond in front of the pull off. Birds kept flying in and some would fly off.
I stayed here for a while hoping all the activity might bring something in.
After about 30 minutes most of the birds took off. I headed for the Blue
Goose loop slowed down at the first dike usually a good spot. At the end of
the dike on the left was a pool of water and there it was the Roseate
Spoonbill with some Great Egrets. New Life Bird. I guess they got tired of me
and took off after about five minutes and flew to what I guess is pool 11.
When you get to the end of the first dike on Blue Goose loop the road turns
left. There is a yellow gate on your right. Scan down the left side of
the dike where the gate is that's where the Spoonbill flew. Good luck.
