I saw the same thing happen yesterday.  Might the looping be a territorial 
statement rather than a courtship display?

Yesterday, I saw a male Ruby-throat Hummingbird repeatedly attack and drive a 
female from my feeders and then have the unmitigated gall to  try to put the 
make on her by going into his little looping dance for her benefit!
