He, and we have seen the green cap to verify, appeared this morning at first light, which was at 7:00 on this cloudy day, and has been coming at 10 minute intervals since then so we have seen him four times as of this post. We are not experienced enough to separate Rufous from Allen's but since Rufous is much more likely we assume that he is that species. He is absolutely gorgeous even in the absence of bright sunlight but does not have the full green on the wings as the one we had for 108 days back in the winter of 2005 so think he is not fully mature yet. We're trying to get a good photo but so far having to shoot through the kitchen door glass has only resulted in blurry images which show the wonderful color but not good details. Maybe he will stay long enough this morning that the front coming from the south today will keep him grounded for a while and let us enjoy him and get a good photo to send to one of the experts.
