Discovery Center here in Murfreesboro has seen a pretty sparse migration so
far. I ran into Steve Zipperer there this morning, and we had a paltry sum of
two warblers: Northern Waterthrush and Tennessee Warbler. The last two weeks
have yielded a few birds of note: one Wilson's Warbler, one Marsh Wren, and a
very cooperative Broad-winged Hawk which sat atop a snag by the walkway and
allowed me to shoot pictures at close range for at least five minutes. Then
this evening, I went out there for walk and found an Olive-sided Flycatcher on
a snag, flying off and returning many times (see awful picture taken with my
wife's little camera). Then, on a ride around the southern side of
Murfreesboro, I saw some birds across a field that I initially mistook for
goats because there were a couple of white ones. On closer inspection, they
were a couple of snow-white butterballs (see another awful picture). I've also
seen a couple of Ospreys in the last few days flying around the southern side
of Murfreesboro, which is not one of their usual haunts. When you don't live
in East or West TN, this is what serves for entertainment.
