We did another count of Common Nighthawks from our house yesterday (9-6-14). We counted 96 South-bound birds. Also of note was a fly-over Black-crowned Night-Heron, our 118th yard bird. Today (9-7-14) at our house, we were treated to several Tennessee Warblers and also a thrush - most likely a Swainson's but I didn't get a very decent look. This evening we only counted 24 nighthawks, about evenly divided between North- and South-bound birds. So...we've totaled 1,126 migrating CONI's since 9-3-14! A brief stop at the Discovery Center Wetlands in Murfreesboro this afternoon produced two Yellow-crowned Night-Herons. We did not find any passerine migrants here. Finally we checked the sod fields in Eagleville to see if any different shorebirds had dropped in. Well, instead of 2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers, there were 10, plus the continuing Ruddy Turnstone and American Golden-Plovers. A very big surprise was an early Wilson's Snipe which flew in, disappeared, then was seen flying again towards Swamp Road. Fingers crossed for an even better day tomorrow...
