The Short-Eared Owl in Eagleville on Swamp Rd (Swamp & Little Rock) was seen
this evening at around 439p. It disappeared after crossing the road. Very
close to 5p, the Short-Eared Owl was seen again. Since the bird crossed in
nearly the same area, we were uncertain whether it was the same bird that was
missed crossing back into the field or whether it was a second bird. The later
bird eventually flew into the field across the way and hunted in front of the
silo and barn. As we were leaving the area, a Great Horned Owl showed itself.
Earlier in the day, Loggerhead Shrikes were seen on both North Rd and
Swamp/Shoemaker. The Merlin was at the pond where North & Swamp meet. Later
it was at Taylor & Swamp. Many Sandhill Cranes were present. I always am
happy to see the Red-Shouldered Hawk, and while only one was seen today, it was
a beauty! (North and Little Rock)
The Blue-Winged Teal that had been present on Swamp was not seen today.
As a side note, a Winter Wren was seen off North Rd last week (between Swamp
and 99).
It was nice seeing Chris Agee and meeting Abra today!
Question for the TN-Birders: Would you like for me to continue posting updates
on the Short-Eared Owl when I see it? Or, because we all know where it is,
would you prefer I stop posting? I hate filling inboxes if not wanted.
