Late this afternoon from the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park overlook in Meigs County, I noted a large increase since yesterday in the number of sandhill cranes in the area around Hiwassee Island on the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge. There are now at least several hundred sandhill cranes at HWR. At 5:30 PM, I observed two adult whooping cranes among a flock of sandhill cranes. They were flying around over Hiwassee Island.
