TN Birders,
Kevin Calhoon and I birded for several hours this morning and afternoon
primarily along Chickamauga Lake from the Dam as far north as Chester Frost
Park.
We encountered several unusual species for this time of year. I will outline
highlights relative to specific location.
Booker T. Washington State Park
Boat Ramp area--
Redhead - 5
Canvasback - 2 males
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER - 1 (this bird was directly across from the boat ramp
with the Redheads)

Wolftever Creek along Highway 58
Ring-billed Gull - conservative estimate of 4,000 birds. Not much else
except a single Herring Gull and approximately 20 Bonaparte's Gulls.

Chester Frost Park (off Hixson Pike several miles north of Hwy. 153)
Seen from campsite # 19 at the end of the peninsula, just past (first right)
the camper check-in off Gold Point Circle North.
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER - 5 imm./females
SURF SCOTER - 1 imm.
Looking straight out toward Harrison Bay but less than half way across the
river. Had all the birds in a single scope view. Doesn't happen here that
often. John Henderson joined us for the view--others were called but did not
make
it. The birds flew and may/may not be there tomorrow.

Lets go birding,
Daniel Jacobson
Hixson, (Hamilton County), TN
