March 2, 2011 TVA and Robco Lakes Shelby Co. TN Wapanocca NWR - AR At TVA Lake, a Black Scoter showed up among the still high numbers of ducks present. Lucy the pale Lesser Scaup is still in the mix. At Robco Lake, the huge number of ducks has dwindled to 1/10 of its previous size, while the Red-necked Grebe frequently tested its flight power and the secondaries are looking good. It has been joined by a single Common Loon and multiple Horned and Pied-billed Grebes. At Wapanocca NWR in Crittenden Co, AR, it took 2 trips to the lake and a long look at a sleeping duck to finally make it into a female White-winged Scoter. A Sharp-shinned Hawk worked the tangles at the parking lot, driving the sparrows into a frenzy. Vesper and Chipping were seen in good numbers feeding along the roads. Jeff R.
