Shelby Park & Bottoms
Nashville, Davidson Co., TN
2012 September 23
7:30-9:45 am
cool and clear

I returned to Shelby Park and Bottoms on Sunday morning to see
what the cold front brought with it. The result unfortunately
was not a spectacular fallout. Best bird of the morning was
a SEDGE WREN that flew across the top of some weeds. I did not
get good look at the bird but it began to chip. I thought that
my hope of getting a good ID was gone, but as I was scanning
the tops of the weeds it popped up, first showing its face,
then tipping its head toward me, and finally turning its back
to me to complete the ID. The bird was in the open field
along the paved trail across from the covered raised deck
overlook.

I did see 2 new fall migrants, 2 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERs
and 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET.
