[TN-Bird] Shelby Co. birds, 17 Oct 13

I birded around Shelby Co. Thursday morning before heading back to Nashville
after a great time with the Memphis TOS chapter on Wednesday evening.
A few notables:
Across MS river in Shelby Co.:
In TN by about 50m- One Sedge Wren was unexpectedly cooperative at about 8 feet
and called, making its presence known, while I was scanning blackbirds. Later
it posed for photos.
One Lincoln's Sparrow about 50m into Arkansas (nice bird for my almost
nonexistent Arkansas list).
Lots of Swamp and Savannah Sparrows. Flocks of Indigo Buntings were also
working the edges of the woods and ag fields. A couple white-throated sparrows
were also found.
T.O. Fuller Golf Course, which is being converted to grassland/shrubland by
TDEC.
A nice flock of chipping sparrows, a couple swamp sparrows, and a red-headed
woodpecker. As this grows up, I expect some goodies in here!
At the Pits:
106 Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks, all at one time. Many older hatching year
birds and one 2/3 grown duckling that was still all fuzzy without any flight
feathers or non-downy body feathers. I have photos that I'll post later.
Highest count I could find in my records or in eBird is 96.
Fulvous Whistling-Duck - still hanging out with the Black-bellieds.
Few shorebirds, mostly Least (~160), one spotted, and one black-necked stilt
(second latest fall record of black-necked stilt for the state!)
Lots of shovelers, blue and green-winged teal
TVA Lake-
Little Blue Heron - 1 immature (I only found three later fall records in TN).
Really good birding!
