Cloudy and light rain at times
After Terry Witt's excellent finds at Shelby Park & Bottoms, I
decided to give it a try this Labor Day Monday morning. I first
birded Mission Hill and ran into Terry and Chad. We found a
couple small flocks of warblers before finding an OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER on a very tall snag on the dog park side toward the
end of the trail away from the main parking lot and paved
walkway that leads to the dog park. Also found on the hill
were 2 BALTIMORE ORIOLEs and an E. SCREECH OWL.
The bottoms Phase I produced additional warblers, mostly MAGNOLIAs
but also GOLDEN-WINGED, WILSON'S, and CANADA. We finished with
11 warbler species. Also seen were SWAINSON'S THRUSH and GRAY
CATBIRD, rounding out a very nice morning.
