Eagle Lake
Shelby Co, TN

I spent an hour scopeing and scanning the sky over Eagle Lake Refuge this
AM. It paid off with a male ANHINGA, lots of Great Egrets and Great Blues
trading in and out of the rookery, 2 flocks of White Pelicans (80+), Purple
Martins and 5 species of swallows, many Mississippi Kites, an adult Bald
Eagle,
Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks, a Cooper's and a Broad-winged Hawk plus
lots of Chimney Swifts. The Broad-wing was harassing a pair of Red-shouldered
Hawks while swallows were teasing the Mississippi Kites. Black-necked Stilts
were courting and other shorebirds were hiding in the undergrowth.

Got a few more photos of the hybrid Western Kingbird and saw a total of 9
Western Kingbirds and 3 Painted Buntings in north Memphis plus quite a few
small flocks of Cedar Waxwings feeding on mulberries. Took one photo of a pair
of
Eastern Kingbirds sitting next to a Western Kingbird........

At the Mississippi River front, there were hundreds of Swifts, Martins and
swallows feeding along with Black and Least Terns. The male AVOCET continues
to feed and feud with the Black-necked Stilts south of DeWitt Spain Airport
north of Downtown. There were still 14 species of Wind Birds feeding in these
pot holes.
Good Birding !!!
