I did as Chris Sloan posted today and what he has told me a dozen times: go out
to Snow Bunting Peninsula during storms. He proved correct, again.

On my way back into town, I decided to stop at the peninsula and see if the
Willets were hanging around and see what else the storms may have brought in.

I slowly rolled onto the peninsula and found the previously located 4 Willets
hanging out. A small shorebird caught my eye and I did a double-take (and
triple-take) on it. I snapped some photos immediately as I wasn't sure I was
seeing straight. I rolled a little closer and found a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER
on the main grassy area on the peninsula (to left as you get onto the
peninsula). It was very nervous. I saw it for maybe 2 minutes. The bird took
off and didn't return. Good thing I got a couple junky photos!

I also had one Laughing Gull coming and going from the peninsula to the pylons.
Seven Caspian terns were floating around the area too. I had at least 6
Herring Gulls, 2 ad and 4 imm.

My shorebird list was much reduced from what was seen this morning, but the
quality was quite excellent!

Semipalmated Plover 1
Spotted Sandpiper 14
Solitary Sandpiper (Eastern) 1
Willet (Western) 4
Buff-breasted Sandpiper 1

If interested, I posted a few photos here:

I also stopped at Drakes Creek Marina, but it was pouring and lightning pretty
bad. I also didn't have much time. I saw a few probable Forster's terns and
the usual suspects and left.

Good storm birding!
