Snow Bunting Peninsula Old Hickory Dam area, Davidson Co., TN 2012 September 8 9:30-11:59 am Low clouds with some rain With the remnants of the front going through Davidson Co. this Saturday morning, I headed to Snow Bunting Peninsula not far from Old Hickory Dam and waited for the birds to arrive. The terns were most active for much of that time with four species seen. Up to 8 CASPIAN TERNs were resting on the neck of the peninsula but were disturbed every time a car came and went. As many as 12 FORSTER'S and 9 BLACK TERNS flew about. One COMMON TERN visited briefly. At one point 7 sandpipers set down on the peninsula, but before I could definitely identify them, a big truck with a huge boat trailer drove onto the peninsula. The smaller terns left by the time the sun began to come out toward noon. Also seen were an adult BALD EAGLE, an OSPREY, and a RED-TAILED HAWK.
