12 December 2003
western Greene Co., TN

Don Holt and I birded about three and a half hours in the western part
of Greene County this afternoon and evening, with good results. Our
main purpose was to check for field birds in the extreme western portion
of the county and to look for Short-eared Owl at the Lick Creek Bottoms
Wildlife Management Area property located at Skinner Crossroads (at the
intersection of Highway 348, North Mohawk Road, and South Mohawk Road).
We didn't find any Short-eared Owls, but we did record the following:

Snow Goose (white phase, probably Lesser race, on Green Road);
American Black Duck (on Green Road);
Northern Harrier (8 at LCBWMA unit, Skinner Crossroads);
Wild Turkey (28 on Lauderdale Road);
Killdeer (184);
American Woodcock (at LCBWMA unit, Skinner Crossroads);
American Pipit (81);
Chipping Sparrow (8 on Lauderdale Road).
