Tues 20 May (1100am-1215pm) visited the pits at lunch time. Robert Gooch was there also. Sludge pits were void of birds, little back pond south of pit # 5 had a couple Blk-necked Stilts, Spotted SP. Blk-necked Stilts are scattered through out the different ponds that are holding grass and weeds for cover. The big newly excavated area bordered by the gravel rd was holding 300+ mixed birds, Dowitchers, Dunlin, 6 Wilsons Phalaropes, Semi-Pal SP, Stilt SP, Least SP, Blk-necked Stilts, Killdeer, Can Geese, Mallards, BW Teal, Am Coots. Big numbers of birds just not there that day at noon. Weds 21 May (1130-1200) visited the north treatment plant for a quick drive through. Am Avocet still in the pot holes feeding and hanging out with the Blk-necked Stilts. A couple of Yellow legs, Killdeer, and a few Least SP around. Upper sludge pits have nesting Blk-necked Stilts both pits. First chicks have hatched on the south pit. 3 fuzz balls with long legs. Fairly close to trail rd. for good viewing. Several Ms Kites soaring around along with various Swallows. Going on vacation will not be reporting on these two sites until early June.
