Harvard University Professor Dr. Irene Pepperberg will be presenting a public talk at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, "Alex and Me: Can African Grey Parrots Understand What They Say?" on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 PM in the Raccoon Mountain Room of the University Center. The presentation is free. Dr. Pepperberg is an internationally known animal behaviorist specializing in the thinking and language ability of birds who demonstrated that parrots can count, acquire large meaningful vocabularies, and even have conversations! Her research in raising parrots Alex, Griffin and Wart and studying their cognitive and communicative abilities has been featured on PBS's NOVA, the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and the BBC, and she is the 2006 recipient of the Frank A.
