Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN
May 4, 2005, 9 AM to Noon
Least Bittern: 3 nests with 14 eggs but no sight nor sound of adult
except 1 female on nest, have heard Least Bittern only once this spring.

Green Heron: 1 or 2 always at north end, between gravel road and tracks, for
more than a week; good area to look for nest or young

Blue-winged Teal: 6-10, appear to be paired, look for nest(s), but unlikely on
the lawn where last year's nest was, mowed recently

Osprey: 1

American Coot: 2 staying very close to south side of gravel road, lok for nest

Virginia Rail: heard none the entire time until just before 12 played a
recording, got an answer.*

Sora: flushed 2 or 3*

* All recent days Virginias and Sora have been very vocal, never more than a
few minutes between sounds; today same weather but no sounds except one
Virginia Rail sound in response to a last minute recording.

David and Gloria Patterson
