[TN-Bird] Standifer Gap Marsh

Standifer Gap Marsh, Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN
May 20, 2005
Nests so far this season:

Virginia Rail: 4 nests 
    4/17    new, couldn't find again, 
    5/13    2 eggs, destroyed (by rat?) next day,   
    5/13    new, 
    5/17    6 eggs

Least Bittern: 5 nests
    4/19    5 eggs,   5/5 3 young 2 eggs,   5/17 gone
    4/28    5 eggs,   5/17 4 downy young
    5/4      4 eggs,   5/5 5 eggs,   5/19 5 eggs
    5/17    4 eggs (30 ft from 4/19 nest, likely same parents, 
                            similar with 2 nests last year at this same 
location) 
    5/19    empty, likely already left nest

Red-winged Blackbird:  54 nests, 104 eggs and/or young,  3 fledged

Mallard:  7 nests, 57 eggs, 1 pair with 7 young from other nests

Canada Goose:  4 nests, 16 eggs; 4 pairs with 5, 4, 4 and 1 young from other 
nests

Tree Swallow: 1 nest, couldn't see inside, parents defending vigorously
