I met Phillip Casteel this morning at Shelby Bottoms and we found the
Swainson's Warbler singing at the same spot where it was discovered on Saturday
May 7 on the Nashville Area spring count. It was quite tape-responsive, and we
had excellent views of the bird singing in the open! No other significant
birds were recorded in that area. On the way home, I stopped off at Florence
Road, Rutherford County, for another try at the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher -
nada. But at the spot where the flycatchers nested last year, the Loggerheaded
Shrike was again seen perched on the wire. They must have a nest in the area.
I made another try for the Connecticut Warbler at Oaklands Mansion at mid-day
with no response. I will give it another shot in the morning.
