Last Wednesday, September 4th, I found 500 Chimney Swifts roosting in a tiny historic building with a tiny chimney in downtown Franklin! It's the Dr. McPhail's medical office that served as the Union headquarters early in the day of the Battle of Franklin. I think the building dates back to 1837 and who knows how long swifts have been there!! The building is opposite the Baskin Robbins. If you find roosting places for swifts, please let me know. We're starting to catalog these locations. If you would, please record the date, street address (and coordinates from GoogleEarth if you can), the type of building like school, factory etc., and the number of swifts you see. Take a photo an email it if you can. These folks in TX have been coordinating swift roost surveys for years. They'd also be very interested in your findings. www.chimneyswifts.org/page240.html Thanks Melinda Welton Franklin, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
