our TN-Bird subscribers who have, for years, kept

our list free from unbecoming behavior and assured

maintained by self discipline.  Our TN-Bird list originally

was hosted by the National Audubon Society 20 years

ago on their servers in New York City.  It was a model

for its time and Audubon eventually found FreeLists

for us many years ago.  At that time we designed and

created the VA-Bird list, helped KY-Bird and became the

model for birding lists across the South and along the

Atlantic.  Our very first birding list was named Valley Birds.

Eventually we created the listserv for the Hawk Migration

Association of North America and Hurricane Net which

tracked and reported storm-driven birds  when storms

made landfall.  We also created the Tennessee Ornithological

Society’s first website originally hosted by the University

of Virginia and the University of Tennessee.

FreeLists' *ListRank* is a means of determining the

relative quality of a mailing list. It is by no means

an endorsement of a list, and FreeLists by no means

guarantees that the lists with high *ListRanks* are

better than those with low *ListRanks* and vice-versa.

It's mostly a convenient way of ordering lists in search

results and category listings with the added benefit of

putting mailing lists that are obviously useless

(abandoned, never used, etc.) at the bottom of those results.
