Thanks to the encouragement and input from several TOS members, I am proud
to announce that, as of today, TOS has a new Facebook page. If you are a
Facebook user, simply search for "Tennessee Ornithological Society".
Currently, we plan to use the page to promote birding, bird conservation,
protective measures for bird habitat and items of interest to our members
and their friends. We also plan to use it to announce various events as
well as "calls to action" on germane topics of the day. While we do not
plan on making our page a political forum, we plan to use it to announce
legislation that TOS officially endorses as a supporting agency to offer
links and information for those who wish to make comments directly on their
own.
At the moment, Susan Hubley and Cyndi Routledge are co-administrators of
the page. I would encourage everyone who is a Facebook user to invite all
their friends and family to "like" or "join" us whether they are birders or
not. While this may ultimately lead to more at-large memberships or
contributions, I feel it is equally, if not more, important to expand the
network of people who are conservation minded in general. This platform
should help immensely.
For those of you not interested in Facebook, don't despair. We will
continue to post all events and activities as before on Tn-bird, The
Warbler, and the soon to be upgraded TOS webpage, as well as individual
chapter webpages. The TOS Facebook page is not designed to replace any of
these currently used communication sources, but will hopefully serve as
another communication and social media tool to substantially augment the
number of people that we reach.
