I am pleased to announce (finally) that the Tennessee Important Bird Areas =
website is now online!

The website is accessible through a link on the main page of the Tennessee =
Ornithological Society (www.tnbirds.org)=20
or directly at http://www.tnbirds.org/IBA/IBAindex.htm=20

The website is very comprehensive. The site is chock full of valuable, =
interesting, and useful (and amazing) bird information. I believe the =
site is user-friendly and that you will all find it an incredibly valuable =
tool for birding and conservation. The site covers all 52 IBA's with =
oodles of information about the sites, including locations, directions, =
pictures, local contacts, links for Friends groups/land owners/managing =
organizations, and of course ample bird data. Chuck Nicholson and a small =
core group of folks have gone over the website countless times checking =
links and information and we believe it is as accurate as possible; =
however there are likely still typos in there and some data needs to be =
updated. The big first step for this program was to get the website =
online and it has finally happened. The next step is to update it with =
more recent bird data, i.e. wading birds of Tennessee.

Please don't forget that a lot of people spent an incredible amount of =
time and energy collecting and compiling the bird data used in identifying =
and recognizing these sites. These data will also be valuable as a tool =
in conservation down the road (i.e. long-term monitoring), so please keep =
in mind the effort of many people that helped make this IBA project happen =
(and thank them if you know who they are). In addition, many people are =
continually collecting data to add to what you see on the site. In the =
future, I'd like see these efforts continued and start new monitoring =
efforts at these and other sites (new IBA's??) to better document the =
birds of Tennessee.

Sorry for multiple cross-posts. Please pass this link on to folks you =
know that were involved or would be interested.

Please send your comments (and any errors you find that need fixing) to me =
by replying to me specifically at scott.somershoe@xxxxxxxxxxx=20

Many thanks and enjoy!!
