Yesterday I returned from visiting out of state relatives, to my home in Tennessee. Upon arriving in Nashville, I had a very special "welcome home". I noticed one of the kitties (indoors only of course!) was intently watching out the window. Then I saw a little Tennessee Warbler outside the screened in porch. It was between the bars of the porch. I photographed it from inside the house, then went outside to see if I could photograph it before it flew away. I snapped a picture, then gently removed it from the screen. I was worried it had been caught there. Then I opened my hand for it to fly off. But to my surprise it did not fly. It just sat there in my open hand! The warbler sat calmly in my hand, looking around a bit. I stood there a couple minutes, expecting it to take off any second. When it did not, I slowly walked over to a bench and sat down, with it still there on my hand. I was pretty dumbfounded to say the least. I sat there, bird in hand, for over 5 minutes. It did not look injured, but might have been a little stunned. I know I was! I have some incredibly close up photos of it sitting in my hand (taken with my other hand holding the camera.) If anyone would like to see them, let me know. It was a real joy to see up close the details on this Tennessee Warbler.
