Last Friday, the US Fish and Wildlife Service formally proposed listing the
*rufa* subspecies of the Red Knot as Threatened under the Endangered
Species Act. *Rufa* is the subspecies that migrates in large numbers along
the east coast of the US. The listing proposal was published in
today's *Federal
Register* at http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-09-30/pdf/2013-22700.pdf.
The public comment period on the proposed listing closes on November 29.
See http://www.fws.gov/northeast/redknot/ for more on the proposed listing.
