I visited the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge and Cherokee Removal Memorial Park viewing areas in Meigs County for a couple of hours Thursday afternoon. One immature bald eagle and a harrier hawk were the highlights at the HWR. At the CRMP, the sightings included: one mute swan, at least three immature bald eagles, an osprey, about 75 sandhill cranes, numerous ring-billed gulls, and several great blue herons and cormorants. I sometimes mention numbers of wildlife watchers and where they are from in these postings because it is important that the various interested constituencies know that significant numbers of people are visiting these facilities and contributing to the economy of the region. Around a dozen visitors were there today.Of the visitors I talked to, the one who lived at the greatest distance from Meigs County was from Murfreesboro.
