A pair of what appear (from photos) almost certain to be Trumpeter Swans is hanging out at a small pond in a friend's back yard in Franklin (Williamson Co.); they arrived a week or so ago. I do not know if it's visible from the road. She said this same pair has been present the last couple of winters but this is the first time they've been here in summer. The photos seem to show that they are not banded, so it's an open question whether they are "wild" (from the newly established population) or escapes. So far as I can tell, there are no summer records of black-billed swans in Tennessee, so it's exceptional any way you look at it. Chris Sloan Nashville, TN http://www.chrissloanphotography.com
