Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co., TN
Tuesday, 2014 September 16
7-9:30am
mostly heavy clouds with a tiny bit of sunshine

I stopped by Radnor Lake this Tuesday morning and immediately found
that Jan Shaw also had decided that birding on an overcast day was
better than staying at home. We birded the dam area where there was
a nice mixed warbler flock, the best being a male WILSON'S plus
BAY-BREASTED, and BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERs . I found a second mixed flock
just before Long Bridge. At first, there were just 2 or 3 warblers
around. However, a titmouse began fussing at me, complaining for a
while by itself. Eventually, the chickadees and wrens joined in, causing
such a commotion that their complaints attracted many more warblers, a
couple vireos, and a catbird. In the flock were AMERICAN REDSTARTs,
OVENBIRD, BLUE-WINGED and GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLERs, KENTUCKY, MAGNOLIA,
BLACK-AND-WHITE, and TENNESSEE WARBLERs. It has been a couple years
since I've had that much of a fuss made over me! All in all, I
found 47 species with 14 species of warblers, so a very
nice morning.

Birds of particular interest included

Yellow-throated Vireo 1

Ovenbird 1
Blue-winged Warbler 2
Golden-winged Warbler 1
Black-and-White Warbler 1
Tennessee Warbler 2
American Redstart 9
N. Parula 1
Magnolia Warbler 11
Bay-breasted Warbler 2
Blackburnian Warbler 4
Chestnut-sided Warbler 1
Black-throated Green Warbler 4
Canada Warbler 3
Wilson's Warbler 1 male

Summer Tanager, male
