Denise Weyer has provided me with an update and a call for help regarding
the Greater Shearwater that was found in a Murfreesboro church parking lot
with a broken leg. The bird is hanging in there. It is underweight,
dehydrated, and has parasites, but it is slowly beginning to eat, which is a
good sign. Walden's Puddle is planning to rehab it to the point where it
can be transferred to a coastal rehab facility for reconditioning and
hopefully release.

Now the bad news: this bird needs surgery to repair the broken leg, and it
will need very expensive ($500) medications. Walden's Puddle is a small
non-profit, and like most animal rehabbers, this type of expense will be a
significant hit to their already heavily-taxed resources.

So, if you would like to make a donation to Walden's Puddle to help care for
this bird, please do so ASAP. Here is a link that contains all the
particulars about the organization:

If you use PayPal, you can make a donation in about 10 seconds, since they
have a PayPal donation link right there on the home page.

I know that they will appreciate anything and everything you can contribute.
If you want to make sure the money goes towards the shearwater expenses
first, tell them that and I am sure that they will honor your request.
However, I can assure you that, even if they receive more than they
ultimately need for the shearwater, the money will be put to good use saving
all sorts of other injured wildlife.

We talk a lot about how we'd like to make a difference. Here is a very
concrete and easy opportunity to put your money where your mouth is. My
wife and I have already contributed $50 to the shearwater effort. I
challenge the rest of you to make a contribution as well.
