A Virginia's Warbler was found yesterday on the greenbelt by Bambi Fincher and
Sherrie Quillen. Good photos were obtained. While leaning towards an ID of
Virginia's
Warbler, the observers were naturally hesitant to call it due to that species'
western range.
I saw the photos this morning & confirmed the ID. I also went to search for
the bird, but
had low hopes of relocating it due to the frigid temperatures today. However,
I did find
the bird in the same general area with several Yellow-rumps, a Palm Warbler, &
bluebirds.
Location: Greenbelt along Netherland Inn Rd / South Holston River.
Park under the interstate hwy bridge, next to Riverfront Seafood restaurant.
I saw the bird about 150 yards downstream in low vegetation, even on ground in
grass.
The flock was slowly moving downstream at that time, but could move back
upstream or
even cross the river to Domtar Park. There is a swinging bridge for
pedestrians.
This is a first Tennessee record.
