Tuesday
Great move of migrants in cool front-
Jacksboro, TN -Campbell County N. of Knoxville in Cumberlands.
Don't know if anyone else has had chance to experience this today (and
those of you working will want to kill me for posting this) But
apparently there is a back up of Warblers/ migrants along the ridges
here in Campbell County and probably other areas nearby due to the
remnants of hurricane East of us and the cool front approaching from the
NW. I have had a buffet of passerines including 12 species of warblers
off of my deck this morning in the bird bath where I have flowing water
surrounded by Poke and Sumac plants. Located at 1500 feet here on the
Edge of the Cumberlands in Jacksboro, there is no water at this
elevation. It has actually not rained here from the storms dispersal
overnight, and the birds are going crazy in the pond. I actually had 6
Am. Redstart, 1 Nashville, 5 Tennessee, 3 Common Yellowthroated, 1
Black Throated Green a couple Magnolia as well as 2 Black and White
Warblers ALL competing for a bath at the same time in a small pool of
about 3x2 1/2 feet. My location was 10 ft away on the deck!. AWESOME,
and for those of you jealous, don't be. I deserve this. ha ha..I have sat
here and read all you guys post all year without being able myself to get
out and bird hardly any from illness and not seeing well, so I count this
a true blessing from the Lord!
Following that array and mixed in at times have been Wood, Swainson and
Gray Cheeked Thrush-1 (also a yard bird) as well as a Veery . What joy
it brings to watch them plucking and stuffing the berries for their
journey I left purposely for them. (Of course, the neighbors think I
should "clean this place up"..) .-Numerous Rose_Breasted Grosbeaks,
flycatchers and resident species are all dropping in at the same time.
The trails cut through my grown up field/ early succession habitat with
locust trees, Sumac and Poke weed yielded over 45 Tennessee Warblers at
one time, with so much movement between them and Magnolias along with 10+
Common Yellowthroats , I could not get an accurate count.
Who needs to leave home to bird?? Perhaps that is why I have been missing
the action, and yes for those of you that may be jealous, I have actually
been working on paperwork all morning while enjoying this delight.
Get out and look. I'm sure they are piling up in other areas.. probably
even in Knoxville if you can find some bushes...
