WHOOPING CRANES OVER BYRDSTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although we drove to a higher point about half mile away from our house, we could have actually seen them closer from our yard, but for a shorter period of time. We were advised of the time they left Adair County, KY and about 8:30 A M, I spotted the lead ultra-light with the main part of the crane flock, followed by another "trike", then the third one had two birds on it's wing. My hands were shaking so much I couldn't count the exact number of birds. The fourth trike was following in case of a dropout and one bird did falter, but caught up again. They were in our view about 10 minutes. We began our watch at 6:30 A M and soon saw a small plane wandering around which I thought might have been Paula Lounsbury scouting the way. I was right because when the cranes came over, there was the same plane herding the flock. By the way, I missed the cranes last year because I was setting in a Doctor's office. I canceled another appointment scheduled for this morning.....there are some things far more important!!!!! =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Topographical Maps located at http://topozone.com/find.asp * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Tennessee Ornithological Society web site at http://www.tnbirds.org * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net Owner: Wallace Coffey, Bristol, TN jwcoffey@xxxxxxxxxx (423) 764-3958 =========================================================
