[TN-Bird] WHOOPING CRANE at Hiwassee Refuge

Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge
Meigs Co., TN
A single migrant Whooping Crane was seen this morning just after 8 a.m. at
the Hiwassee Refuge, according to a telephone report made to me at 8:15 a.m.
by Ken Dubke of Chattanooga. The bird was feeding in a field.
Dubke said the bird was first observed Thursday evening at 5:10 p.m. Dubke
observed the bird flying in the area Friday evening just before sunset.
Friday evening Kevin Calhoon e-mailed me to say he had just got a call from
Chris Mahoney that a single Whooping Crane was sighted at Hiwassee (his
guess was that it was at Blythe Ferry) on Thursday evening.!
According to Dubke this is possibly a bird from one of the assisted
migration efforts from two years ago. Dubke reported a 1,000 Sandhill
Cranes also at Hiwassee.
