Keeping our social or anti social distancing today, Danny Shelton and I
hiked and birded the Mossy Ridge Trail at Percy Warner Park. We had three
separate YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS each one in its own Sycamore tree spread
out along the 4.5 mile trail. If there was ever any doubt why this species
was once known as the Sycamore Warbler... and all three were singing loudly
and often.
We also heard a HERMIT THRUSH. Like most of the thrushes its song is
hauntingly beautiful.
We observed numerous NORTHERN PARULAS and BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS.
But note that “observed” is code for “heard” as these were treetop and hard
to see.
