After our East Coast pelagic trip was cancelled, Jan Shaw and I decided to do some West Coast birding. The West Coast of Tennessee, of course. We camped three days at Reelfoot Lake State Park. The dawn songbird serenade here has to be heard to be belived. The tires of my truck and the soles of our boots crunched on a lot of gravel roads as we wandered about Dyer, Lake and Obion counties searching for birds. Our efforts were rewarded with great looks at lots of birds, including Glossy Ibis, Fulvous and Black-bellied Whistling Ducks and Tricolored Heron. Last night our camp was at T.O. Fuller State Park, in Shelby County. We birded the Riverport Rd. area yesterday afternoon and this morning. Western Kingbirds and lots of Black-necked Stilts, at the pits, were added to our list It was a fine trip, filled with unforgettable memories, shared with good friends.
