After Hugh Barger informed me that white pelicans were back at Dry Branch in Meigs County this morning, I drove to the area to view them. Shortly after I arrived, 3 of the pelicans flew away. Later I went to the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park, also in Meigs County. From the parking lot of the CRMP, I saw an immature bald eagle attempting to overtake and attack an osprey. Later an adult bald eagle flew into the area, but all 3 soon flew their separate ways. From the overlook I saw 3 white pelicans near a small island in the Tennessee River on the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge. Perhaps they were the 3 that flew from Dry Branch about one mile or less away "as the pelican flies." On a lighter note, I had to take my car into a dealer for service this afternoon. When the service department informed me that my car was ready to go, I started the engine and began to drive away. Then I heard the song of a bird, and then again. I thought, "There is a bird in my car! How did the service technician let a bird into the car?" Then I heard a human voice saying "Sprague's pipit." The technician had either accidentally or deliberately turned on the CD player which had a "Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs" in the CD player!
