I went to take a short break this afternoon, made up a cup of tea and stood on
the back deck, semi-gazing into our easement.
Almost immediately, I was met with a fair amount of bird activity, grabbed the
binoculars and observed a solid little mixed flock including a new yardbird:
#83 Orange-crowned Warbler.
Two first of season Palm Warblers, right up on the deck railing, sipping small
pools of water, and an easy 15 Yellow-rumped Warblers, chasing each other all
about, no doubt, getting ready to hunker down for the coming winter. Also, a
fairly large flock of Starlings displayed my first of season murmuration. Not a
bad haul for an impromptu session. Special thanks to the light rain and cool
temps for the invite.
