TN-birders,

Eagle Bend fish hatchery in Anderson County – not much is happening out here
recently, as the shorebirds have already moved through and won’t return until
sometime in July for the most part. We did, however, see a Willow Flycatcher on
Wednesday. The flycatcher was on the northwest end (the hatchery basically runs
north to south) of the uppermost pond (on the very upper right as you come in).
This is back by the adjoining commercial property. It was feeding along a chain
link fence, but not calling. We have had Willow’s at the hatchery in the past
but it has been a couple of years.

Common Loons – We were in Polk County today looking for the Common Loons that
Rick Houlk reported recently. We found them at the Parksville boat ramp
(35.1088, –84.56590). Note that there is an “EAST” Parksville boat ramp in the
area just east of the ramp where we saw the loons. Don’t know why these birds
are still hanging around. They both appeared healthy to us.

Pied-billed Grebe – a bit further down the highway from the above boat ramp, we
found a Pied-billed Grebe near the Greasy Creek bridge. This is not a common
bird in East TN at this time of the year.

Great birding,
