Yellow-crowned Night-Herons are nesting again at Oaklands Mansion in
Murfreesboro after being absent last year. The nest is directly opposite the
small bridge over the stream, about 75 feet high on an overhanging limb, on
the same slope as the house. There is one bird sitting presumably on eggs
now and 2 other adults were present this morning. There is currently a major
project underway to improve the wetland and remove all non-native vegetation,
how this will affect the birds is anyones' guess. There were several other
migrants present there today including Blue-headed and Yellow-throated
Vireos, Cerulean Warblers, and a Baltimore Oriole.
