Has anyone else had a huge increase in birds at their feeders in the past two days? We've had 4 or 5 White-throated Sparrows since October 5, but this afternoon there were many more and just before dark we counted 32 at just one set of our two feeder groups. A couple of Dark-eyed Juncos first appeared on October 16, but today there were at least 15 at the one feeder we were watching. From 3 Cardinals, suddenly there were 12-15 at the same feeders and American Goldfinch numbers jumped to over 50. With the House Sparrows, House Finches, Carolina Wrens, Titmice, Nuthatches, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Carolina Wrens, Song Sparrows, Mourning Doves, Chipping Sparrows, Eastern Towhees, and the single female Purple Finch which has been with us since November 14, the 30 x 50 feeding area behind our house looked like Grand Central Station at rush hour! But birders are never satisfied, so we continue to search through the birds to see if the White-crowned Sparrow, which showed up October 22 but only stayed a couple of days, and the 2 Pine Siskins that joined with the Goldfinches on November 19 for that single day, might join the crowd. Gotta go now and buy some more bird seed.
