My parents, Amos and Peggy Stevens, found a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron this morning (May 8) in a small pond next to Simerly Creek Road just about a half-mile inside Unicoi County from the Carter County line. My parents informed me about the bird and I went with David Thometz to also observe the Yellow-crowned Night-Heron. I also took some photographs of the bird. Here's a link to one of the photos: http://members.aol.com/ahoodedwarbler/ Yesterday, while helping Gary Wallace with the "early bird walk" hosted by the Lee & Lois Herndon Chapter of TOS for the Roan Mountain Spring Naturalists Rally, participants got several good looks of Yellow-crowns on the ground and in flight. This is, however, my first sighting of a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron in Unicoi County, TN.
