Allan Trently:

As important (or maybe more so) as the first Tennessee
nesting record for the Yellow-rumped Warbler, your find
is one of the very rare records in the Southern Appalachians.

The only thing to equal it is a late Jun-16 Jul 1993 (pair, nest,
2 young) nest found on Roan Mountain, North Carolina
byJohn Gerwin and Rick Knight. I think that is Mitchell Co.

Their record was possibly the only breeding record south
of West Virginia in the Appalachians, to the best of my
knowledge. If I'm wrong, someone needs to hop in here.

Also, as far as I know, there is still no nesting record for
Virginia!

Roger Clapp of the U.S. National Museum reports that
a male and female collected 13-14 July 1995 along a forest
road 1.4 miles NE of Biary Branch Gap (where the heck
that is) in Virginia had enlarged gonads, "providing
the first proof of breeding in Virginia." It was considered
an extension of the range for the West Virginia population.
I suspect there is still no nest record for Virginia.

Allan, it would be good if you could provide coordinates
for the nest you found. I know you will probably do that
when a paper is published but it may be a rather long
spell before any of us see that in type anywhere else than
right here. Much of this type of info is picked up from TN-Birds.
I keep my Northeast Tennessee birding records updated
by such reports.

Congratulations again to a great guy on a simply wonderful
birding discovery.

Go get 'em "Dr." Allan J. Trently :-) (He isn't a doctor. Just
an inside personal joke we carry on about Albert "F." Ganier
and Lee "R." Herndon and "J." Wallace Coffey and
Kenneth "H." Dubke -- you get it! ).
