This evening I had three eastern phoebes at about 7 pm sitting on adjoining fence pickets in my backyard in Ooltewah (Hamilton County). I had never seen two phoebes this close to one another let alone three, After observing for a while it became obvious that they were very young birds and two of them were having some difficulty figuring out how to fly from one place to another and land. I suspect they only just fledged. It was interesting to see. Also the annual ruby-throat feeder wars have begun in earnest, Hugh Barger Aug. 10. Ooltewah TN
